UA pilots and friends will be joined by pilots from Arizona, New Mexico and Texas for a weekend or spelunking in Carlsbad Caverns the weekend of April 24-25. UA plans are to first fly into Chandler Airport (CHD) in Phoenix on Friday, April 23 to meet for lunch and then caravan onto the Carlsbad Caverns Airport (CNM). Saturday and Sunday will be reserved for visiting the Caverns (and there's much to see), and returns may be planned for Sunday the 25th or Monday the 26th. Carlsbad Caverns information may be obtained at http://www.nps.gov/CAVE/index.htm. Specific cave tours are found at http://www.nps.gov/CAVE/index.htm. Entrance to the Main Cave is only $16, and additional public tours of various caves are an added charge. Participants may opt for just the self-guided and paved walking tour through the main cave, additional public self-or-ranger guided tours, or the special ranger-guided climbing and crawling tours described below. RANGER-GUIDED CAVE TOURS - IMPORTANT INFO! Several guided tours are available during weekdays and weekends. However, the most adventurous tours, the Hall of the White Giant and Spider Cave have been fully booked only for our group! These special ranger-guided tours are in unlit caves and include climbing and crawl-throughs. The tours are given only to 8 GUESTS EACH WEEK and normally sell out months in advance. We therefore have purchased all 8 slots available on each tour. Hall of White Giant is on Saturday, April 24 and Spider Cave is on Sunday, April 25. Since we have already booked and paid for all 16 (8 each) spaces, you must confirm your plans to attend and reserve your spot at one or both tours as soon as possible. The cost of each tour is only $20 per person. When the spots are taken, no other visitors will be entering the caves for the entire weekend! INTEREST IN THIS EVENT HAS BEEN VERY HIGH. So, to be fair, the special cave tours are on a first-come-first-serve basis. You must send $20 (check, cash or paypal) to me to reserve your spot(s). Be sure to indicate which tour you want to go on. If you to not get a spot on these tours there are many others you can still reserve online, and large group or self-guided tours to keep you busy for the weekend. We will be providing additional information on hotels, transportation and other activities as we near departure, but reservations must be made early! Please respond to me to let me know your aircraft or other transportation to the event, number and names of guests. |

 Please submit your reservation nowThe trip is 3 weeks away and we need a head-count to reserve hotel and ground transportation. Please add yourself to this list of attendees if you are a member, and then send me an email to let me know the number and names of the participants.
Also, let me know when you are flying in, if you will be meeting for lunch in Phoenix Chandler airport on Friday and if you would like a pass for the special ranger-guided limited tours described above. |
